Black hole spin via continuum fitting and its uses

I will briefly review the continuum-fitting method of measuring spin. The talk will principally focus on applications of mass and spin data for ten black holes to understanding how jets are powered and why the mass and spin distributions of the transient and persistent black holes differ. Given the importance of validating both the continuum-fitting and Fe-line methods of measuring spin, I will compare for several black holes the spin results that have been obtained by the two methods.
